World-class managed services data centre to open in July
We are delighted to announce the eircom Managed Services Datacentre, Ireland's newest and most technologically advanced centre for hosting and managed services. The purpose-built facility, which represents an investment of more than EUR100 million, is being completed now and is due to open its doors in Clonshaugh, Co. Dublin in July, 2008.

Measuring 125,000 square feet, with nearly 60,000 sq ft. of raised space, the centre is already drawing significant interest from Irish and international companies seeking to improve management of critical IT systems, including more effective risk management and improved disaster recovery arrangements.

Our investment in the new centre is in direct response to what companies like yours have told us are your most pressing ICT concerns. These include coping with changes in the nature of enterprise computing, such as the rise of blade technology, server consolidation and virtualisation.

Did you know?
31% of large Irish enterprises expect to increase their use of managed services in the near future. Key benefits cited are access to skills and expertise, as well as the ability to free up staff resources (IDC, 2007).

Only a state of the art datacentre provides the ideal environment for this - both in terms of facilities like power and cooling capacity, and in terms of access to the high-value technical specialists who can provide hands-on management of hardware and software services where needed.

Meeting demand for managed services

From our work with Irish enterprises, we see a growing number of organisations exploring the benefits of the managed services model, driven by increasing demands on the IT function, including 24x7 uptime, device proliferation and compliance requirements. These forces, together with growing pressure to demonstrate technology ROI, make the managed services model a good choice, due to the scale, on-tap expertise and certification guarantees it offers.

Independent research firms have also reported a surge in interest in managed services among Irish enterprises and public sector organisations. IDC interviews showed 31% of respondents planning to increase their use of managed services in the near future. Around 41% say that the chief benefit they see with managed services is access to skills and expertise, while 21% point to the benefit of freeing up staff time. Research firm iReach, meanwhile, anticipates the managed services market to grow 25% in 2008.

The new eircom Managed Services Datacentre provides 24x7 service support underpinned by Service Level Agreements and process standards including ITIL and ISO20000. The centre builds on eircom's 10-year track record in hosting and managed services. Partnerships with key technology providers and interconnection with our existing network of three data centres, offer excellent flexibility and scalability for customers.

The centre is equipped with the latest power, cooling, fire suppression and biometric security measures, and minimises power consumption by using the ambient external temperature to assist in cooling. The data centre makes extensive use of technology to manage technology’, including intelligent utilities for systems set-up, monitoring, alerting and trouble ticketing.  You will find full datacentre specifications on our website.
