eircom to roll out €1.4m next-generation network at Croke Park

In July, eircom announced it had won the bid to deploy a next-generation telecoms network around Croke Park in a deal valued at €1.4m

The investment will underpin a unified communications system for voice and data services that will include digital signage, enterprise television, video streaming, stadium building management and a connected real-estate solution.
It will also support future networked applications such as smart card-based ticketing and access solutions, video-on-demand to corporate boxes, and access to team and match information via smartphones. Location tracking of valuable assets and VIPs within the stadium will also be possible, as well as video advertising that changes based on location or time.

“This is a significant investment for the venue, which underpins our commitment to constantly improving our facilities for visitors to, and users of, the stadium,” said Croke Park Stadium Director, Peter McKenna.
“This telecommunications network will allow us to provide a range of services and position ourselves as the leading venue for the delivery of cutting-edge communications facilities.”

Additional upgrades to be implemented as part of the deal include delivering unified communications to the GAA to enable interconnectivity between the association’s countrywide county boards. The implementation of a wide range of business communications services such as flexible videoconferencing facilities and wireless networking will also ensure that the stadium is a highly advanced conference and events venue.

“This network, through innovation, will significantly improve the experience for players, fans and corporate visitors to Croke Park,” said Peter Clarke, Director of Enterprise Markets at eircom.
